Extreme Sports Team

HISTORY

Rob Lindsey, Ryan Boyle, and David Skeen all played lacrosse beginning at a young age. They each benefited from established youth lacrosse programs, summer leagues, independent high school teams, and college. They received excellent coaching and mentorship that was a by-product of each of these levels of lacrosse.

After college, the three wanted to find a way to give back to their city of Baltimore and to promote the sport that had given them so many opportunities. Thus the non-profit Trilogy Foundation was born in 2007 in an effort to give Baltimore youth a chance to experience the same positive effects that Rob, Ryan, and Dave had achieved through lacrosse. In fact, while lacrosse skills were taught by the many volunteers in the foundation's infancy year, the larger goal was to teach the at risk kids of the program self esteem and lifeskills to take with them through life.

This program is the Baltimore Youth Lacrosse League, or BYLL.

2007: Year One

The Baltimore Youth Lacrosse League(BYLL) founded by the Trilogy Foundation had its first year of operation in 2007. Players from four recreation centers and three middle school teams participated during the month of July. Practices were held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the recreation centers with Saturday games being played in Patterson Park. The Trilogy Foundation recruited scores of volunteers who served as coaches and organizers and in all the program served approximately 170 players.

2008: Year Two

  In 2008, the
BYLL moved the schedule up to June in an attempt to facilitate the transition of middle school aged players from the spring season into the summer. This also had the benefit of eliminating down time for players. The second year saw the league grow from four recreation centers into six. Further, there was a shift from 12-14 year olds to 10-11 year old players. Once again, the BYLL served approximately 170 players.
